Deliverable:

CBRN Protective Duty Boots

End User:

USMC Chemical/Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF)
First Responders

Description:

FEAT will develop footwear that provides the physical and chemical protection necessary to be worn during CBRN missions, but also provides greater freedom of movement and agility than existing solutions. FEAT shall be engineered to meet NFPA 1990, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard for PPE worn by first responders to hazardous material emergencies and CBRN terrorism incidents. FEAT shall also maintain protection/performance after exposure to battlefield contaminants and military decontamination techniques.

Operational Impact:

Advances in tactical personal protective equipment cannot be fully exploited if the operator has limited mobility. Current footwear solutions are uncomfortable and restrict freedom of movement, slowing down time-sensitive missions. More ergonomic CBRN footwear will not only protect the wearer from common hazards (pooling liquids) but also allow them to confidently move around a contaminated operational environment with greater agility and comfort.

Transition:

The performer shall implement a USG-approved commercialization strategy to make the boots available directly through the performer, GSA Catalog, and DLA Troop Support.
