Description:

Developing an improved prototype universal application field protective mask (XM55) capable of providing respiratory and ocular protection from chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, toxic industrial materials, biological agent aerosols and other emerging threats. Avon Protection Systems will substantially evolve the existing M53 mask platform by integrating novel design features to eliminate internal liquid build up, improve robustness of the hydration connection, improve speech clarity, and increase face seal to suit interface performance.

Operational Impact:

Provide respiratory and ocular protection from chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, toxic industrial materials, and emerging threats; one mask face blank that is adaptable to both positive and negative pressure applications; broad positive sealing surfaces, interior and exterior to accommodate the broadest selection of personal protective equipment interfaces and provide superior maxiofacillary sealing surfaces; positive, exhaust assisted drainage; rehydration capable; and reduction in maintenance and logistics footprint while increasing mission readiness.
